Munich Re's AI insurance line adds a parametric-claims partner in Mosaic Insurance

Munich Re's aiSure product now includes a Mosaic Insurance-underwritten option pricing claims on verified AI performance failures. The index's own scoring finds no certification or audit-trail disclosure behind it.

Munich Re's aiSure insurance line for artificial intelligence systems has added a product underwritten with Mosaic Insurance that prices claims on what the companies call a "parametric-like structure for fast, objective claims," according to Munich Re's own site.

"Mosaic Insurance has partnered with Munich Re to harness the power of aiSure™ — a visionary product offering that covers AI performance failures using a parametric-like structure for fast, objective claims aimed towards AI vendors and deployers," the page states, in a capture retrieved Oct. 6.

aiSure is described on the same page as "a suite of comprehensive coverage for AI systems designed to address a wide area of AI-related risks for AI providers and corporate adopters caused by AI performance errors, including: Contractual liabilities Own damages/financial losses; and Legal Liabilities." Munich Re says the coverage lets customers "indemnify your clients for their financial losses or legal liabilities directly related to AI errors."

Pricing is risk-based. "The quality of the model and its performance stability determine the premium, enabling us to provide a wide variety of Insurance options for AI and machine learning firms," according to a FAQ page Munich Re published, also captured Oct. 6.

One named case study illustrates how the cover is applied. Munich Re says a credit-union lending model called MKIII "is backed by Munich Re's aiSure™ insurance, covering losses from prediction errors, calibration or data drift, unexpected deviations, or shifts in borrower behavior."

AI Dispatch's index, which scores insurers and AI vendors against a five-dimension trust-gap rubric, rates aiSure's outcome-settlement dimension at 2 of 3: payment is tied to a verified AI performance failure under the parametric structure described above, rather than released regardless of outcome. But no trigger metric, threshold or payout basis is published on either Munich Re page reviewed. Insurance-indemnity scores 2 of 3 — a named, described coverage suite, but without published limits.

Compliance and audit-trail both score zero. A full-text search of the two Munich Re pages reviewed — 14,888 and 17,298 characters, both captured Oct. 6 — found no occurrence of the term "certif" on either page, and no occurrence of "audit" on either, consistent with AI Dispatch's index recording both fields as no public information for the aiSure product.
