Anthropic Reportedly Commits $200B to Google Cloud AI Capacity

SAN FRANCISCO — Anthropic has reportedly committed to $200 billion in AI infrastructure capacity on Google Cloud, according to Techzine Global, in what would be one of the largest cloud deals in the AI sector.

The reported commitment would deepen the partnership between the San Francisco-based AI company and Google’s cloud division, headquartered in Mountain View, California. Frontier AI model training and deployment require substantial and growing computational resources.

Google has been one of Anthropic’s most prominent backers, having invested billions of dollars in the Claude maker in recent years. The two companies have maintained a close commercial relationship, with Anthropic’s models available through Google Cloud’s Vertex AI platform and Anthropic relying on Google’s tensor processing units and GPU clusters for training its foundation models.

A $200 billion infrastructure commitment would dwarf previous cloud deals in the AI sector and reflect growing capital expenditure competition among leading AI companies. The major cloud providers — Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure — have each poured tens of billions into expanding data center capacity to meet surging demand from AI workloads.

Anthropic, which competes with OpenAI and other frontier labs, has raised substantial venture capital to fund its AI research and infrastructure needs. The company’s decision to concentrate such a large commitment with Google Cloud could affect competitive dynamics in the cloud market, where AWS and Azure also compete for major AI customers.

The reported deal also carries implications for U.S. AI infrastructure investment more broadly, as policymakers and industry leaders debate whether domestic computing capacity is sufficient to maintain American competitiveness in artificial intelligence development.

Neither Anthropic nor Google Cloud has publicly confirmed the details of the reported commitment. The terms, timeline and structure of the deal remain unclear based on available reporting.
