GitHub automation agent Maige can act with full UI-level access; site discloses no permission scopes or incident-reporting process

Maige embeds a customer's entire codebase on setup and can take any action available in GitHub's interface, according to its own site. It names no runtime-governance framework, compliance certification or incident-reporting process.

Maige, an open-source AI agent that automates GitHub issues and pull requests, describes its own access level in stark terms: "maige is an AI with access to GitHub. it can do anything you could do in the UI," according to the company's website, reviewed by AI Dispatch.

Setting up Maige triggers a broad data-ingestion step before it acts. "When you connect, we create three things: a webhook, embeddings of your entire codebase, and a sandbox environment," the site states — meaning the tool indexes a customer's full source code as part of onboarding. Once running, Maige can "label, assign, comment, review code, and even run simple code snippets," per the site, governed by rules a user writes in plain language: "Simply describe what should happen when issues and PRs are opened."

The company says it is "used by 4.3k++ repos" and prices access on a usage basis after a free tier, with a "Standard Plan $30.00 USD/ month" listed on its site.

Several items on AI Dispatch's trust-gap rubric are absent from Maige's public materials, per this review: what permission scopes the tool requests when it connects to GitHub, any runtime-governance framework limiting what its broad UI-level access can do, a compliance certification, an incident-reporting process, a liability cap, or insurance. Maige does offer a way to review what it has done — "Monitor runs and provide feedback in our dashboard," the site states — but does not say whether that record is tamper-evident or independently reviewable, the bar AI Dispatch's rubric sets for a governance-grade audit trail.

Maige is open-source infrastructure, which may make some of these questions moot for a technical team able to read the code directly. For a non-technical team evaluating it as a vendor, none of that assurance information is currently published.
