Anthropic Funding Round Valued at $900B, Topping OpenAI

SAN FRANCISCO — Anthropic is closing a funding round that values the AI safety company at $900 billion, surpassing rival OpenAI in private market valuation, Forbes reported.

The deal, if completed at that valuation, would represent one of the largest private technology financings in history. Anthropic has emphasized safety research alongside capability advances as central to its development approach.

The San Francisco-based company, founded in 2021 by former OpenAI researchers Dario and Daniela Amodei, has rapidly ascended the ranks of the most valuable private technology companies globally. The valuation would place Anthropic ahead of OpenAI, which has itself commanded historically large private market valuations in recent funding rounds.

The funding round reflects the volume of capital flowing into frontier AI development, as investors have directed large sums toward a small number of leading AI laboratories.

Anthropic’s Claude family of AI models competes directly with OpenAI’s GPT series, Google DeepMind’s Gemini, and offerings from Meta, Mistral, and xAI. The company has centered its public positioning on AI safety research and its constitutional AI approach to model alignment.

The valuation milestone comes amid intensifying competition among AI labs for talent, compute resources, and enterprise customers. Major cloud providers including Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud have previously invested billions in Anthropic through strategic partnerships.

Details of the round’s lead investors and specific terms were not immediately available.
