AWS Veteran Matt Wood Named Chief AI and Technology Officer
Seattle-based Amazon Web Services has named Matt Wood, a 15-year company veteran, as its chief AI and technology officer, according to a news report. Wood previously served as vice president of AWS’s global infrastructure and will now lead the cloud provider’s AI strategy and technological advancements.
The appointment reflects AWS’s commitment to strengthening its position in the rapidly evolving AI market. Wood will oversee the development of AI tools and services across the company’s $60 billion-a-year cloud division, which competes with Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud. His return to AWS comes after a brief hiatus following the 2022 acquisition of his AI startup, Obtiva.
Wood’s new role carries implications for the U.S. tech sector, as AWS controls nearly 33% of the global cloud infrastructure market. Analysts note that his expertise in scaling AI solutions could accelerate AWS’s deployment of machine learning tools for enterprise customers. The move also aligns with CEO Andy Jassy’s broader strategy to integrate AI across Amazon’s business divisions.
