Meta launches encrypted AI chat feature with no-server logs

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced Incognito Chat, an encrypted AI chat feature that does not store conversation logs on company servers, positioning it as a privacy-focused alternative to existing AI chatbots. The feature is being rolled out for Meta AI on WhatsApp and within the Meta AI app.

According to The Verge, Zuckerberg described the feature as ‘the first major AI product where there is no log of your conversations stored on servers.’ The functionality is being rolled out for Meta AI on WhatsApp and within the Meta AI app.

The Decoder reports that conversations in Incognito Chat are processed in a protected server environment that even Meta cannot access, and chat histories are deleted when the session ends.

Zuckerberg emphasized that the mode offers a private AI usage experience comparable to incognito modes in other AI chatbots, but with the added assurance that no conversation data persists on Meta’s servers.

The launch comes amid growing scrutiny over how AI services handle user data, with regulators and privacy advocates calling for stronger safeguards.

Industry analysts note that if widely adopted, Incognito Chat could set a new benchmark for privacy in generative AI products and pressure competitors to offer similar no-log options.
