OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Images 2.0 With Improved Text Rendering
OpenAI on Thursday released ChatGPT Images 2.0, a significant upgrade to the image generation model powering its flagship chatbot, introducing improved text rendering, multilingual support, and advanced visual reasoning capabilities.
The update marks the company’s most substantial improvement to consumer-facing image generation since it first integrated DALL-E into ChatGPT. The new model addresses several long-standing limitations that have plagued AI image generators, most notably the accurate rendering of text within images.
Text generation has historically been one of the weakest points for AI image models, with outputs frequently producing garbled or misspelled words. OpenAI said the new model delivers significantly more reliable text rendering, a capability that broadens potential use cases for marketing materials, presentations, and social media content.
The multilingual support allows users to generate images containing text in multiple languages, expanding the tool’s utility beyond English-speaking markets. OpenAI did not immediately specify which languages are supported at launch.
Advanced visual reasoning capabilities enable the model to better understand spatial relationships, object placement, and compositional instructions from users. The improvement means the system can more accurately interpret complex prompts describing specific arrangements of elements within an image.
The release comes as competition in the AI image generation space has intensified. Google, Meta, Stability AI, and a growing number of startups have released increasingly capable models in recent months, pushing the technology toward photorealistic outputs and more precise user control.
OpenAI has faced scrutiny over how its image models handle requests related to public figures, copyrighted material, and potentially harmful content. The company said it has implemented updated safety measures in the new release, though it did not provide specific details on policy changes.
ChatGPT Images 2.0 is available to ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Enterprise subscribers. OpenAI said it plans to roll out access to free-tier users in the coming weeks.
