Anthropic Doubles Claude Code Usage Limits for Most Users

SAN FRANCISCO — Anthropic is doubling usage limits for most Claude Code subscribers, the company announced Tuesday, giving developers more capacity to use the AI-powered coding tool.

The increase applies broadly across Claude Code’s user base, with most subscribers seeing their limits doubled, according to a report by 9to5Google. The change reflects growing demand for Anthropic’s agentic coding assistant, which allows developers to delegate complex programming tasks to an AI agent that can read, write and execute code.

Claude Code, which operates as a command-line tool, has become a key product in Anthropic’s push into developer tooling and agentic AI. The tool competes directly with offerings from rivals including OpenAI’s Codex and Google’s Gemini-based coding tools.

The limit increase comes as AI-assisted coding tools have grown in popularity among professional developers and enterprises, driving competition among AI providers to offer more generous access tiers.

Anthropic, a San Francisco-based AI safety company, offers Claude Code through its Pro and Max subscription plans. The company has steadily expanded the tool’s capabilities since its launch, adding features that allow it to handle increasingly complex multi-step development tasks.

Specific details on the new limit thresholds across each subscription tier were not immediately available.
