Anthropic Raises Claude Usage Limits, Strikes Compute Deal With SpaceX

SAN FRANCISCO — Anthropic announced Tuesday it is raising usage limits for its Claude AI assistant and entering a compute infrastructure deal with SpaceX, the company said.

The announcement, published on Anthropic’s website, pairs a consumer-facing upgrade — higher usage limits for Claude users — with an infrastructure deal that taps SpaceX’s resources for AI compute.

Specific details about the new limit tiers were outlined in the company’s blog post. Anthropic said the changes follow the launch of the Claude 4 model family.

The SpaceX Connection

SpaceX is primarily known for its launch vehicle and satellite operations, but the company has invested in computing infrastructure to support its Starlink satellite constellation and other data-intensive operations.

For Anthropic, which has raised billions in funding and competes with OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and other frontier AI labs, the deal signals that AI companies are looking beyond traditional cloud providers — Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure — to meet demand for GPU capacity.

Industry Context

The partnership comes amid an industrywide scramble for compute resources. AI labs have faced constraints on GPU availability, with Nvidia’s data center chips remaining in high demand throughout 2025 and into 2026. Companies have pursued a range of strategies to secure capacity, from long-term cloud commitments to building their own data centers.

Anthropic’s relationship with Amazon, its largest investor, has centered on AWS as a primary cloud partner. The SpaceX deal suggests the company is diversifying its infrastructure sources as its compute needs grow.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk also controls xAI, which competes with Anthropic in the frontier AI model market through its Grok AI assistant. xAI operates the Colossus supercomputer cluster.

Details about the financial terms of the compute deal and the specific changes to Claude’s usage limits were published on Anthropic’s news page.
